President John Mahama has issued a stern warning to his ministers, stating that his government will not tolerate arrogance or disrespect toward the people who elected them into office.
According to President Mahama, humility and accountability must guide their conduct in serving the nation.
“We must exhibit tolerance for the views of Ghanaians and work to meet their aspirations. This government will not tolerate arrogance or disrespect for the people who elected us into office,” President Mahama asserted during the swearing-in ceremony of the first six appointed ministers at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, January 22.
The President reminded his appointees that the authority they wield comes from Ghanaians and that they serve at their pleasure.
He urged them to prioritise humility and candour in their roles, stressing that Ghanaians have no patience for leaders who take them for granted.
President Mahama also acknowledged the immense challenges ahead, assuring Ghanaians that his administration is prepared to rise to the occasion and reset the country.
He noted that Ghanaians, through their votes, have demanded the highest standards of governance, and his government cannot afford to fail.
“...This puts a burden of responsibility on the government, but it is one we must prove equal to,” he said, adding that the days of tolerance for “disrespectful gaslighting” by government officials are over.
The President charged the newly sworn-in ministers to act with integrity and to serve Ghanaians with the respect and dedication they deserve.
