The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection says it is committed to collaborating with the police and other relevant authorities in conducting a comprehensive investigation into the marriage between Gborbu Wulomo of Nungua, Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru XXXIII, and an underage girl.
According to the Ministry, the investigation aims to uphold the principles outlined in the 1992 constitution of the country and prevent any form of abuse.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, April 2, the Ministry emphasised the importance of protecting children's rights and acknowledged the significant public outcry regarding the matter as indicative of a strong advocacy for children's welfare.

The statement, issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ministry, also underscored its commitment to uphold cultural values throughout the investigative process.
“The Ministry reiterates its commitment to work closely with the Ghana Police Service and all relevant stakeholders to conduct thorough investigations into the alleged child marriage while upholding our cultural values as a people within the parameters of the law.”
Meanwhile, the office of the Gborbu Wulomo has defended the marriage ceremony between the 63-year-old priest, Nuumo Borketey Laweh XXXIII, and a 12-year-old girl over the weekend.
According to the office, Naa Okromo is considered one of the special children chosen by the Gborbu deity to dedicate their lives to serving the god.
Speaking at a press conference on April 2, the Director of Administration at the Office, Rev. Dr. Daniel Nii Gyasi Ankrah, clarified that Naa Okromo is destined to occupy the stool of Naa Yoomo Ayemuede.
He explained that this position can only be assumed by an indigene of Nungua and individuals from a specific lineage.
“Naa Yoomo Ayemuede is one of the four roles played by indigenes of Nungua of peculiar heritage and ancestry from time immemorial. The title Naa Yoomo Ayemuede goes with appellation Wodekoyo.
“The Gborbu deity has four traditional and religious wives in Nungua alone and they are Naa Ashi3ley, Naa Ohimia, Naa Bosuafi and the final one is Naa Yoomo Ayemuede," he said.
