The National Democratic Congress' Director of Elections and IT has criticized the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its vice-presidential candidate, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, for boldly campaigning in the Afram Plains area after facilitating the relocation of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development’s satellite campus from Donkorkrom to Bunso in the Akyem Abuakwa South constituency.
The UESD established by the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama government was to have a satellite campus located at Donkorkrom in the Afram Plains North district of the Eastern region but was relocated to Bunso in the Akyem Abuakwa South constituency by the current government.
It is the first University in West Africa established to focus on research in natural Environment and climate change as well as agro-business.

Dr Omane Boamah says denying the people of Afram Plains a public University was a deliberate move to neglect development in the area because they have been voting against the NPP.
Addressing a charged gathering at Maame Krobo in the Afram Plains South Constituency as part of his 5-day tour of the Eastern Region, Dr Omane Boamah indicated that the NPP government has no moral right to campaign in the Afram Plains over the relocation of the university, and called on the people of Afram Plains to show the NPP government the exit.
"After the 2016 elections, President Akufo-Addo, as wicked as he was, relocated the university from here to his hometown. The NPP has no shame because if they were shameful, they wouldn't have the moral conviction to campaign in Afram Plains. Since they never considered you but neglected you, on December 7, just show them the power of the thumb" he urged.
Vote massively against them for them to know that it is NDC that developed Afram Plains, it is NDC that seeks the welfare of the people," he stated
The former Communications minister also criticized the government for allegedly diverting funds meant for essential infrastructure development in the area.
