Days after resignation from his post, past Berekum Chelsea Chief Executive Officer, Nana Oduro Sarfo has revealed one of the key reasons for his decision was the fact that he was sidelined in decision making.
Oduro Sarfo who was a guest on last Saturday’s Joy Sports link on Joy FM said his club’s President Nana Kwame Nketiah, did not allow him to take decisions.
“I was hardly involved in any decision making as CEO of the club. I have a recording of a conversation I had with my club president about the reasons why I was resigning which I will not make public. Unfortunately, some sections of the media have decided to engage in what I called a cacophony of noise. They do not have the full compliments of the story yet are going on about,” he told the show host Nathaniel Attoh.
Oduro Sarfo in an earlier interview on Accra based Angel FM had thrown some savagery remarks at the host when he was asked about the quality of the pitch at his club’s home ground.
According to him, the host made comments to suggest that he (Oduro Sarfo) said he was watching Nigerian movie while refusing to address any issues on his club’s home pitch which obviously was not in good shape. Nana Oduro Sarfo’s comments attracted backlash and his resignation followed not long after.
Apology
"I think I didn’t do anything to warrant that attack. Maybe the Twi language I spoke in was misconstrued so I will now resort to English. I am sorry that the show host’s transcription of my submission was in a bad taste.
I didn’t mean to disrespect anybody. If anybody feels disrespected by my comments, let me use this medium to apologize. I don’t think I had said anything bad or out of bad taste," he said.
The former Berekum Chelsea CEO he had made arrangements for the Berekum Golden City pitch to be watered ahead of their matchday 2 clash with Asante Kotoko.
“It cost GHC 2000 per watering session and we had to do that twice each day. My club president asked me to overlook it. It is rather sad that the same issue to which I had a proactive measure drew us so much embarrassment.
I don’t think I said anything that warranted him taking it to that level."
According to Nana Oduro Sarfo, he refused interviews with many media houses after the incident.
The club subsequently distanced itself from the ‘Nigerian movie’ comments by Oduro Sarfo. The latter told Joy Sports that his disappointment in the move by the club’s top hierarchy is what triggered his resignation.
“The club President advised me not to speak publicly on the matter only to disassociate themselves from the comments later on. I had planned to resign anyway but the club disassociating itself from what happened pushed me to do it earlier than I planned,” he added.
Getting off Facebook
According to the GFA Executive Council Member, he pulled down his personal facebook page due to insults hurled at him for commenting on a post.
“It’s a place that I love so much but I had to pull my page down because the noise is too much. I am somebody who has a lot of respect for humanity."
"Unfortunately we are not able to figure out the true identities of people on Facebook. Sometimes the people who comment are not our age mates. But when you post something people will be attracted but they will comment,” he said.
He has also confirmed that he will not play any mainstream administrative roles in football again but will rather do more in the background due to his experience and age.
He has told Joy Sports he will announce his next project in football soon.
