The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region is questioning the police's account as to how a party supporter could have shot another supporter during the celebration a the parliamentary candidate's victory in Savelugu.
The party said the police should be targeting the likes of an NPP sympathizer who they named Gabby for allegedly shooting at the police station.
Addressing a press conference in Tamale, the NDC's Northern Regional Secretary Mohammed Abdul Salam said the party believes is a plot to hang a murder charge on the MP-elect.
He wondered why the police will search the premises without the owners and a warrant if the police had no ill motive.
Mr Salam also found it questionable that hastily concluded that the office belongs to the MP-elect when it was rather the NDC’s property.
"Our MP-elect does not have an office, if there was any searched our tables, computers and other things without our presence and a warrant that office belongs to the NDC Savelugu constituency and not the PC,” he said.
He further told the media that "it doesn’t make sense for anybody to think that somebody who is part of jubilant people of the same party will shoot themselves.”
The Northern Regional Secretary of the party also accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being behind the shooting that led to the death of the 14-year-old girl in Savelugu at the NDC office.
He said the NDC has cooperated so far with the police.
On the back of this, they found it surprising a press briefing by the police indicated that the weapons were found in the office of the MP-elect.
Mr Salem said the MP-elect for Savelugu is a man of integrity whose 27 years of service as a public servant has no criminal record adding that any attempt to damage his reputation because of his victory will not wash.
