Former IBF Lightweight champion Richard Commey put himself back into the world title picture after a sixth-round knockout victory over Jackson Marinez on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Commey (30-3, 27 KOs) walked down Marinez (19-2, 7 KOs) in the early rounds, using his superior physical attributes to intimidate his opponent. Marinez relied on his superior boxing skills but Ghana's Commey was a man on a mission in his first fight in 14 months.
This was Commey's first fight since losing his IBF lightweight title to Teofimo Lopez via a second-round stoppage in December 2019. Lopez was seen in Commey's corner during the fight encouraging him and offering fight tips.
The win gets Richard Commey back among a crack list of lightweights which includes undisputed champion Lopez, Gervonta "Tank" Davis, Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney.
