A sports pundit with Nhyira 104.5 FM in Kumasi, Austine Woode, has said there's no way Ghana can win the 2022 African Cup of Nations if CK Akonnor remains the Ghana Black Stars coach.

Speaking on Nhyira Power Sports, the firebrand presenter asked how a coach of the calibre of Mr Akonnor with no top-level credentials was managing the Black Stars.

"I don't think that where the Black Stars are and our aspirations of winning the AFCON and Semi-final at the 2022 World Cup, CK Akonnor is the one to help us achieve that. 

"I was disappointed in Majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu when he said Ghana should appoint a Ghanaian as coach to prove that the black man was capable of managing his affairs. In picking a coach for a football team, it should be about competence and not the colour of the skin of the person," said Austine. 

In 2001, Coach Attuquayefio won the CAF Champions League for Hearts of Oak and was handed the Black Stars coaching job, but he failed to make any impact.

Osam Duodu, Silas Tetteh and Kwesi Appiah have all been given the Black Stars coaching job, but none achieved the expected successes. 

“I'm not saying the foreign coaches have all achieved success because many of them too failed Ghana, and that is the reason the country must go for the best coach available and not because he's a Ghanaian,” said Austine Woode.

The sports pundit also questioned why President Akufo-Addo said he will do everything for the Black Stars to win the AFCON but the managers of football have failed to fix the most important factor that can help Ghana achieve that, the coach. 

Speaking on the recent brouhaha over the picking an assistant for CK Akonnor, the firebrand pundit asked why the FA would reject the two local coaches suggested by CK Akonnor and go in for an expatriate. 

"This proves that the GFA themselves do not believe in the capabilities of Black Stars coach CK Akonnor and only keeping him because that is what they political hierarchy want," he opined.
