Director of Elections and Research of the New Patriotic Party, Evans Nimako, has refuted the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)’s prediction that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is likely to win the 2024 elections.

The EIU report stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stands a better chance in winning the 2024 elections. It however indicated that the party could make its chances brighter without former President John Mahama as candidate.

Speaking in an interview on The Pulse on Tuesday, Nimako opined that Ghanaians will vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) again in the 2024 elections.

“I can assure you we’ve always said the battle is the Lord's and know we will be going to the election in 2024. A huge majority of the Ghanaian population will be going to that poll and then they will decide the way forward for the good people of Ghana and I can assure you that definitely, the people will vote for the New Patriotic Party once again,” he said.

Mr. Nimako however admitted that Ghanaians are faced with challenges and noted that the report serves as advice to the NPP to take appropriate measures to win the elections.

“As we speak today, it’s 19^th April, 2022. Ghanaians will go to the polls on December 7^th 2024 there is a long way to go and I will not run away from the fact that there are some challenges in Ghana.

"Times have never been the same…I will be surprised if the discerning and reasonable people of Ghana will not be looking at those challenges and think that what Ghana is going through is mainly the making of the New Patriotic Party,” he said.

Meanwhile, A former Deputy Minister for Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has rejected portions of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)’s 2022 report which says that "that the opposition party can revitalise this prospect of victory with a fresh presidential candidate."

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM's Midday News on Tuesday, Mr Kwakye Ofosu affirmed that former President John Mahama will be on the ballot paper in the 2024 election.

According to him, it won’t make sense for the party to waste resources in changing him because he resonates with the rank and file of the party.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu said the NDC only has to correct whatever went wrong in the 2020 elections to ensure a smooth victory.

“I think that from a purely common sense standpoint, it doesn’t make sense to go and change a candidate who did so well,” he said.
