In recent days, match-fixing in Ghana has been on the lips of most Ghanaians, as perpetrators of previously alleged scandals have not been brought to book.
On the final game week of the Ghana Premier League 2020/21 season, the game between Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies which was alleged to be fixed, even after players confirmed the game being fixed could be a clear case in point.
Speaking to Joy Sports about the match-fixing situation in Ghana, Sammy Anim Addo of the Ghana Football Association said, “When they are caught it will really help because they are trying to destroy our game.”
“It’s about ethics and rules, just follow the rules, if you are in the game don’t do it… It's uncalled for.”
As a means of trying to tackle the situation, the Ghana Football Association, invited Kingsley Owusu Achau, President of Bechem United Fc, and Alhaji Amadu Moro Brimah, Board member of Accra Hearts of Oak to assist with investigations as well as an offer GHc50,000 as a reward for any individual that can help with information about match-fixing or manipulation.
Adding to the discussion, former Legon Cities' shot-stopper, Fatau Dauda, said, “If it’s true, match-fixing will not make the league grow, the players won’t play with passion.”
