Ampem Darkoa Ladies were crowned 2022/23 Women’s FA Cup champions on Saturday after coming from behind to beat Police Ladies.
The Techiman-based side emerged 3-1 winners in extra time at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Kumasi after the 90 minutes ended in 1-1 draw.
Coach Joe Nana Adarkwa’s side has now won both the Women’s FA Cup and the Premier League in back-to-back seasons. They edged Hasaacas Ladies to win the Women’s League title weeks ago.
The Nana Mma ladies become the first team in history to defend the Women’s FA Cup title.
The first half of the game against Police Ladies in Kumasi ended goalless, with all the action set to unfold in the second half.
Police Ladies struck first through Mary Berko two minutes after the hour mark to stun the defending champions.
Black Queens forward, Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah, leveled for Ampem Darkoa with 11 minutes to the end of regulation time.
There was no winner at full time and the game had to be decided in extra time.
The first half of extra time produced no goals but Mary Amponsah scored the winner in the 107th minute before completing her brace a minute later to wrap up the game 3-1 for Ampem Darkoa.
