Evangelist and founder of Worldwide Miracle Outreach, Reverend Canon Dr Lawrence Nene Kofi Tetteh, has been one of the prominent Ghanaians who has on several occasions rekindled the memory of late dancehall artiste, Ebony Reigns.
Since the demise of the late songstress, Dr Lawrence Tetteh has often recounted her last days on earth due to an encounter he had with Ebony Reigns before her death.
In an interview on Joy Prime’s morning show on Wednesday, the international evangelist, while reminiscing about the departure of the late artiste, debunked claims that Ebony was rich before she died.
He revealed that the late musician was in the process of breaking through as she was planning on travelling to Europe, which he was to support before her untimely death.
According to Dr Lawrence Tetteh, "Ebony had nothing. Ebony was not 21 years old when she died. She died before she turned 21. Ebony’s biggest contract with Bullet and his team had not materialised before she died. Ebony had also never been to Europe before she died.
"The only privilege she was going to have was to go abroad, which was what connected me to the fact that she was to go before she died. So, she never really had a breakthrough. She was in the pipeline for a major breakthrough, which never happened."
He added that the demise of the 'Maame Hw3' hit-maker instead paved opportunities for her family, where he, Dr Lawrence Tetteh, secured a visa for them to travel to Europe.
The reverend minister further revealed how his timely intervention in the organisation of Ebony’s funeral resulted in the success of her funeral service as her family was financially weak.
"When we got to the place, Obour said how much were they going to contribute from MUSIGA for her coffin and her funeral.
"So, I thought this should not go anywhere and said they should leave the coffin for me to buy. In fact, without being too boastful and arrogant, I took charge of the funeral, and it was planned in my house," he recounted.
Dr Lawrence Tetteh also mentioned that the venue of the funeral, the forecourt of the State House, was secured with his help and he introduced her father, Opoku-Kwarteng, to some political leaders.
Due to his encounter with Ebony, where she received Christ before she died, he considered her funeral a crusade and grabbed the chance to preach the gospel to all attendees.
His sermon created a relationship between him and the majority of Ghanaian celebrities including Shattawale and Afia Schwarzenegger.
Despite the fact that Ebony’s death was shocking to many Ghanaians, Rev. Dr Lawrence Tetteh is forever thankful to God that she received salvation 72 hours before she died.
Born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, Ebony died alongside two others on February 8, 2018, while returning from Sunyani to Accra after a visit to her mother.
Their vehicle collided with a VIP bus around 11.30 p.m. at Nyamebekyere, near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South District in the Ashanti Region.
