Episode 5 of Joy Prime’s culinary extravaganza, Big Chef Tertiary saw all 6 schools battle it out again in the kitchen, showing their cooking prowess to win the hearts and marks of the judges.
As usual, the 18 contestants were summoned into the kitchen by the judges, Chef Sam, Chef Tracy, and the guest judge of the episode, Chef JiJi, for the announcement of the task of the day.
In this episode, the contestants were tasked by the judges to prepare Jam and pancakes.

This time, contestants were not provided with mystery baskets; instead, the judges asked them to explore the open market for all the ingredients they needed to successfully carry out the task assigned to them.
It was a delightful sight in the kitchen as contestants hurriedly made their way to select all their ingredients for the jam and pancake within the 5 minutes allocated to them.

Once the time to shop at the open market was up, contestants were directed to their posts to start preparing their meals.
Each team was allocated 45 minutes to complete the task, and work began.
As usual, the popular phrases "clean as you go" and "if you waste my ingredients, I will waste your marks" were constantly being repeated by Chef Sam and Chef Tracy to remind all contestants to keep their stations neat, as it is one important rule all chefs live by.

After the 45 minutes elapsed, Chef Sam halted all movements in the kitchen and asked each school to present their meal. Each school plated their Jam and Pancake and presented it to the judges for their verdict.
The Jam and Pancake challenge left a sour taste in the mouths of the judges. Chef Sam, Chef Tracy, and Chef Tracy expressed how disappointed they were in all six teams as they all woefully failed the task.
At the end of the episode, the judges decided not to crown any team the star school of the day. The kitchen had a gloomy atmosphere as contestants were saddened by the judges' comments.

All 18 contestants were encouraged by the judges to step up their game in the kitchen as the competition will keep getting tougher. They were also reminded that eviction is very close, and failure to meet the required standard of the competition makes elimination easy.
The heat in the kitchen has turned all the way up. Will the contestants take the advice of the judges seriously? Will they return to the kitchen with their A game? Who will win Star School of the Day in the next episode of Big Chef Tertiary?
