Nigerian musician, Wizkid has for the first time reacted to the death of his mother, Mrs Jane Dolapo Balogun.
Speaking at a candlelight service held in her honour, on Thursday, the musician born Ayo Balogun, said he feels lost without the presence of his mum in his life.
Describing the loss, Wizkid said he is in immeasurable pain, however, he believes that the Almighty will console the family during this tough time.
“The pain is profound. It hurts deeply. The deepest pain I’ve ever felt in my life. I’m lost but I pray God will comfort every one of us,” Wizkid said at his mum’s wake-keeping ceremony which took place on Thursday.
Earlier, a video shared online showed Wizkid tearing up while the ceremony was ongoing.
After the video went viral, an outpouring of support from devoted fans flooded in, as they extended their heartfelt condolences to the singer, hoping that he and his family find the unwavering strength they need during this challenging time.
The death of Wizkid's mum was reported in August 2023.
Sunday Aare, Wizkid’s manager, broke the news on Friday, August 18, stating: "Yes, she died this morning, at about 1.30 am."
Wizkid has always been vocal about the impact his mum had on his life; commending her for her unwavering support that contributed to his meteoric rise in the industry.
In 2014, Wizkid released ‘Mummy Mi’, a song off his ‘Ayo’ album. The song was dedicated to mothers across the world.
The singer praised Madam Jane for all the joy she gave to him. He also promised to spoil her with the finest things in life.
