Former Black Stars midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, has expressed worry about the squad building mechanism at the senior national team level.
Ghana has seen the need for an influx of foreign trained talents in recent times, due to the seeming lack of adequately qualified players from the local system to feed the Black Stars.
This has seen very few players in the current national team setup, have experience in representing either of the junior national teams.
According to the former FIFA U-20 World Cup winning star, Ghana does not have a plan for building a sustainable and competitive senior national team, and believes that has to change.
“We don’t have a plan. During Ben Koufie’s time, there was a 5-year development plan which produced the likes of Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari, from the youth national teams,” he said on UTV.
“Myself, Samuel Inkoom, Ransford Osei and others were part of the U-20 team that won the World Cup in 2009.
“We were then drafted into the national team to understudy the products of Ben Koufie’s development plan. So when the time came for them to exit the team, we were ready to take over.
“It’s been 15 years since we won that U-20 trophy for Ghana, but unfortunately, we don’t have an U-20 side close to the strength of the 2009 team.
“You then can’t fault anyone for saying our football has serious problems,” he concluded.
