Bofoakwa Tano have mathematically been relegated from the Ghana Premier League following their defeat on match day 32.
The Hunters suffered a 1-0 defeat to Legon Cities on Sunday, June 1, 2024, which condemned them to Ghana's Division Two League after just one season back in the top flight.
With 2 games more to play, Bofoakwa are currently 17th in the 18 team league with 33 points, 9 points adrift of Karela, who occupy the last safety position. This means, even if Bofoakwa Tano win their remaining 2 matches, the maximum number of points they can reach is 39, not enough to overtake Karela.
Real Tamale United on the other hand, despite occupying the last place on the table, still have a mathematical chance of escaping the drop. They have 31 points with three games remaining. If they win all three games, they can go up to 40 points, level with Karela in 15th (assuming Karela lose both of their two remaining games), and then it would come down to head to head.
Following their relegation from the Ghana Premier League in 2007, Bofoakwa Tano spent 16 years in the lower divisions before famously gaining promotion back in 2023.
But the fanfare that greeted their return was soon replaced by despair following a poor start to the season where they won just two out of their first 18 league games.
Frimpong Manso, who led them to promotion, was replaced by John Aduafo, who could do little to prevent a certain drop to Division One.
However, they could still end the season on a high, after defying the odds to make the MTN FA Cup final, where they are set to face off with Nsoatreman on 23rd June, 2024 at the University of Ghana Stadium.
