Galamsey, or illegal mining, has been a long standing problem in Ghana, contributing to environmental degradation, pollution of water bodies, and the destruction of forest reserves. Despite various government efforts to put a stop to the practice, the fight against galamsey has seen diverse results.
On Thursday’s edition of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, the topic for discussion centered on the question: “Are we winning the fight against galamsey?”
The phone lines were opened to listeners to weigh in on whether Ghana is truly making progress in the fight against galamsey and what more needs to be done to address this pressing issue.
Many listeners expressed their disappointment over the lack of decisive action from both the government and citizens in addressing the galamsey crisis.
They highlighted concerns that despite repeated warnings and interventions, the issue continues to worsen, with insufficient efforts being made to fight illegal mining effectively.
