In today’s world, social media has become a powerful tool for communication, giving a voice to millions of people across the globe. As Ghana heads towards yet another pivotal election, discussions are intensifying regarding the impact and role of social media influencers in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
A technology analyst, Maximus Ametorgoh, has stated that any politician who disregards the significance and impact of social media on his or her constituency risks losing out as a politician.
“Can you imagine a politician not visiting a particular constituency in Ghana and expecting to win that constituency? It may not work out,” he asked.
According to him, social media should be regarded as a constituency that a politician needs to engage with. It may not suffice for a politician to only periodically visit the constituency if they fail to leverage the impact of social media.
Speaking on the Joy FM Super Morning Show on Tuesday, November 26, Mr Ametorgoh emphasised the need for politicians to build a social media or digital media following.
“Politicians need to build that social media or digital media audience so that they can engage with them later during election periods. It is very important to build your own influence on that channel and then use others as amplifiers,” he stated.
