The Atlantic Bay Resort, in collaboration with the Ghana Tennis Federation, has commissioned a newly constructed tennis complex in Prampram.

The commissioning ceremony took place on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Atlantic Bay Resort (formerly Legacy Tribe), located along the Atlantic coast. The resort’s beautiful sandy beach has long been a tourist attraction, offering visitors a serene and welcoming atmosphere.

Five lawn tennis clubs participated in the event, including M8 Tennis Club from Koforidua, Premier Tennis Club, Regional Maritime Tennis Club, Sorle Lagoon Tennis Club, and Accra Social Tennis Club. The clubs gathered to celebrate the new facility and compete in a special tournament.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President of the Ghana Tennis Federation, Cedric Dzelu, expressed his satisfaction with the facility and hoped it would serve the people of Prampram while fostering greater interest in the sport.

“We all know that football is the number one sport in Ghana, primarily because it is played everywhere, making it a nationwide passion.

"For us in tennis, anytime we see a facility like this [the Atlantic Bay Resort tennis court], we view it as a breakthrough for the sport,” he said.

He further emphasized the importance of such facilities in promoting the game.

“The more of these facilities we have, the more people will develop a love for the game, appreciate it, and actively participate."

Dr. Fareed Arthur, owner and CEO of Atlantic Bay Resort, highlighted the significance of bringing lawn tennis closer to the people of Prampram.

“We wanted to bring sports closer to the community. When we first discussed the idea, many assumed it would be an AstroTurf football pitch.

"Football is beloved and played everywhere, but there are many sporting talents beyond football. Unlike football, which requires 22 players, tennis can be played with just one, two, or four people, providing more opportunities for talent to shine,” he explained.

He also emphasized the potential for young talent in Prampram to benefit from the facility.

“I’m sure there are many talented individuals in Prampram whose skills have gone unnoticed because football dominates. So, when the idea came up, I said, ‘Let’s invest in a tennis court that will engage the youth, bring people together, and offer excitement to the growing community in and around Prampram.’ That’s why we did this. "

The court will serve as the host grounds for the Atlantic bay resort tennis club.
