The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) on Sunday, May 18, 2025, intercepted 92 slabs of suspected cannabis weighing 53.6 kilograms at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
According to NACOC, the substance was being smuggled into Ghana by a British national.
The suspect, whose name has been withheld, arrived in Accra aboard Emirates flight EK 787 from Thailand via Dubai.
During a routine inspection, NACOC operatives stationed at the airport discovered two suitcases containing the substance.
Further investigations led to the arrest of a customs officer and a worker at the Commercially Important Person (CIP) section, who are believed to be accomplices.
The Deputy Director at NACOC, Alexander Twum Barimah, confirmed the development in an interview with the media.
He cautioned travellers planning to smuggle illicit drugs to desist and warned security officers who aid such travellers at entry points to refrain or face the full rigours of the law.
The trio are currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
