The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has apprehended Osman Abdul Majeed, a 32-year-old man, for the unlawful possession of a foreign firearm and ammunition following a routine vehicle search near Obuasi.
According to a Facebook post by the Ghana Police Service, Majeed, who was travelling in a Toyota minibus from Kumasi to Tarkwa, was stopped by police officers at the Tweapease Police Barrier on 29th July, 2025.
During a thorough inspection of his backpack, officers uncovered a concealed Bruni Model 92 pistol, loaded with three live rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The firearm was found to be unregistered and had no legal documentation supporting its possession or transportation.
Upon interrogation, Majeed admitted that he had been given the weapon in Tamale by an individual named "Awal," who instructed him to deliver it to an unspecified person in Tarkwa.
Despite his confession, Majeed was unable to provide any further details about the weapon's origin or intended recipient.

His failure to produce any authorised paperwork for the firearm has raised concerns over the possibility of wider illegal arms trafficking in the region.
The police have since taken Majeed into custody, where he is expected to face charges related to the unlawful possession and transportation of an unlicensed firearm.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the origins of the weapon, and efforts are underway to track down those involved in the illegal arms trade.
At present, Majeed is the subject of an ongoing investigation, and police are working to identify other individuals who may be connected to the case.
The police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illicit weapons trafficking and ensuring public safety.
Majeed is expected to be brought before court to face the full force of the law once the investigation concludes.
