The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has revealed that there is no backing from the government for the Black Stars Asia Tour friendlies.
The Black Stars are currently in Asia as they begin preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Otto Addo's side will face Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup on Friday before taking on South Korea four days later during the international break.
According to Asante Twum, the funding for the two games is coming from the opponents, with no support from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
"The games will be funded by the two teams that invited the Black Stars; we didn't take any money from the ministry," he said on Asempa FM.
Even though I know the GFA President has informed the sector minister of these two matches, there is no funding from their end. They gave us their blessing to go ahead with the games, but with no funding.”
Quizzed on whether players will receive any extra bonuses as part of the tour, Asante Twum clarified, "Yes, there will be no winning bonuses; it will just be the per diem agreed between the GFA and the players."
19 players were involved in the team's first training session on Wednesday ahead of Friday's encounter against Japan.
