The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has announced a special reward for anyone who helps identify the person who stabbed a firefighter and fled the scene during a firefighting operation at Adjiringano near Ability Square on Friday, November 14, 2025.
A spokesperson for the GNFS told JoyNews that the incident occurred as firefighters battled a fierce blaze that destroyed a two-storey, eight-room building.
“Our teams acted swiftly and professionally to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjoining properties,” the spokesperson said, adding that investigations are ongoing.

The fire reportedly started around 9:30 pm, with the first crew from the Legon Fire Station arriving at 22:03 hours. Reinforcements from the Madina, National Headquarters, and Adenta Fire Stations joined the operation, supported by a private water tanker to ensure a steady water supply. The blaze was brought under control at 00:16 hours and fully extinguished by 01:08 hours.
Seven rooms and their contents on the top floor were destroyed, while one top-floor room and all ground-floor rooms and nearby buildings were successfully saved.
Two firefighters sustained injuries—one received a stab wound to the left arm, and another was hit on the shoulder by a falling block. Both were treated and discharged at Unity Clinic in Madina.
The GNFS urged the public to exercise fire safety, particularly during the dry season when fire risks are heightened.
Authorities are appealing for information on the attacker to ensure accountability. “We have a special reward for anyone who helps us find the person responsible,” the spokesperson confirmed.
