The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a viral Facebook video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at their home in Ofankor, Ga East. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo on Tuesday, November 18.
According to the CID, the suspect, identified as John Odartey Lamptey, was picked up on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the family residence following widespread public outrage over the assault.
The Police further revealed that two of Lamptey’s siblings — Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey — were also arrested after allegedly attempting to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and sharing the viral footage.
The tenant was rescued during the operation to ensure her safety.
Police say efforts are underway to locate and protect the victim, who fled the scene before officers arrived.

“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face the full rigour of the law,” the statement emphasised.
The viral video sparked strong reactions online, with many Ghanaians calling for swift justice and enhanced protection for victims of domestic abuse.
