Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle, has been remanded into custody in Pennsylvania, USA, after allegedly stabbing his wife in a violent domestic dispute.

The Lower Paxton Township Police Department confirmed that the 41-year-old politician was apprehended following an incident on the morning of Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Authorities were called to a residence along Mayfair Drive in Harrisburg at approximately 10 a.m., where they discovered a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Emergency first responders arrived at the scene and immediately transported the victim to a local hospital.

In a statement released on Monday, police provided a cautiously optimistic update on her condition.

“The woman was taken to the hospital by first responders and is currently in stable condition,” police confirmed, further clarifying that the event was an isolated domestic incident and that “there was never any threat to the public.”

Investigators spent several hours at the Mayfair Drive property on Saturday, processing the scene for forensic evidence.

Mr. Nortey, a well-known name in Ghanaian politics who contested the highly competitive Klottey Korle seat, now faces criminal charges in the United States.

According to the Lower Paxton Township Bureau of Police, the charges include:

• Criminal Attempt – Homicide
• Possessing an Instrument of Crime with Intent to Use
• Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence

Online court records reviewed on Monday show that Mr. Nortey was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Judy.

Due to the gravity of the attempted homicide charge and the circumstances of the arrest, Judge Judy denied the politician bail.

Valentino Nii Noi Nortey rose to national prominence in Ghana during the 2016 and 2020 election cycles.

His potential as a rising star in the NPP’s Greater Accra wing made him a recognisable face among the diaspora in the United States.

The news of his arrest has sent shockwaves through the NPP community both in Accra and abroad, particularly as the party prepares for its internal 2028 flagbearer primary later this month. While the party has not yet issued an official statement, the arrest of a former parliamentary candidate on such severe charges represents a significant reputational blow.

Mr. Nortey is currently being held at the Dauphin County Prison.

His legal team is preparing for a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 26, 2026, where a judge will determine if there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to the Court of Common Pleas.
