The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will not use inducements to influence voters ahead of the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election scheduled for March 3, 2026.
Speaking to Joy News, Evans Nimako, the director of elections for the party, expressed confidence in the party’s candidate, Baba Ali Yussif, popularly known as Homeboy.
“On election day, March 3, they will come out and vote massively for Yusi Baba Ali, known as the home boy. That is the work we are doing as a party,” Nimako said. “We are not going to dish out money as they did.”
The Ayawaso East by-election was triggered by the death of the sitting MP.
The NPP has fielded Baba Ali Yussif, relying on his local roots and acceptance among constituents, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) chose Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed as its candidate following a primary on February 7, 2026.
The NDC primary has faced scrutiny amid allegations of vote buying, with claims that delegates were offered cash and other items.
A party committee was set up to investigate the matter, and Baba Jamal has denied any wrongdoing while pledging full cooperation.
He emphasised the importance of a credible and transparent process both on the election day and in the period leading up to it.
“What is important is on the election day and events leading to the election day, how credible they will be,” he added.
