The Member of Parliament for Tamale North and Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Alhassan Suhuyini, has claimed that all contracts at the Ministry of Roads and Highways were previously awarded through sole sourcing, but says the current administration has introduced reforms to improve the system.
Speaking on TV3 Ghana on Saturday, 28 March, Mr Suhuyini stated: “The Ministry was 100% sole-sourced before we assumed office, but we have changed that. We are now ensuring that procurement processes are transparent and follow proper procedures.”
He explained that while sole sourcing may occasionally be necessary, the government remains committed to strengthening accountability and safeguarding public resources.
“We are determined to implement reforms that guarantee fairness in awarding contracts, while still delivering on critical infrastructure projects for the nation,” he said.
Mr Suhuyini’s remarks follow concerns raised by The Fourth Estate over procurement practices in the sector, including allegations of cost inflation and excessive reliance on sole-sourced contracts.
He emphasised that the current administration’s approach represents a shift towards greater transparency and efficiency in public procurement.
