Ghana and Zimbabwe have taken a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations with the inaugural session of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) held in Accra on Friday, March 27, 2026.
The meeting marks a renewed push by both countries to translate longstanding diplomatic ties into concrete economic and development partnerships across key sectors.

Delivering remarks at the opening session, the Chief Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Khadija Iddrisu, highlighted the deep historical, political, and cultural bonds between the two nations.
She noted that Ghana and Zimbabwe share a common heritage rooted in the struggle for independence and Pan-African solidarity.
Ambassador Iddrisu described the PJCC as a timely platform to convert that shared history into tangible, results-driven cooperation.

She said both countries have identified priority areas, including trade and investment, agriculture, energy, mining, education, health, tourism, and governance.
She stressed the need to consolidate these areas into high-impact programmes that would drive economic growth, industrialisation, and job creation.

On his part, Permanent Secretary at Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Albert Ranganai Chimbindi, expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended to his delegation and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Ghana.
He underscored that the success of the PJCC should not be measured by the number of agreements signed, but by the real impact on the lives of citizens in both countries.

Both sides reiterated the importance of moving beyond political commitments to actionable programmes, with a strong focus on implementation, monitoring, and evaluation to ensure sustained and meaningful cooperation.
The inaugural session is expected to lay the foundation for enhanced collaboration between Ghana and Zimbabwe, reinforcing their shared vision of economic transformation and regional integration.
