Akbar Khomeini urges NDC to roll out 24-hour economy to address grassroots concerns
A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team, Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini, has called on the National Democratic Congress(NDC) government to fully roll out its flagship 24-hour economy policy, arguing that it remains the most effective way to address the frustrations of the party's grassroots.
Speaking in response to growing agitation among NDC supporters over unemployment and unfulfilled expectations on the AM show, Khomeini said the government’s recent assurances only confirm what has long been part of its economic agenda.
“Today is just an open admission of a party policy that they have been pursuing since 7th January,” he stated. “But that will not fundamentally address the concerns of the grassroots of their party. The only way they can address that problem is to roll out the 24-hour economy nationally. Make sure economic activities operate 24/7 and support the private sector to expand.”
His comments come on the back of an appeal by the Deputy General Secretary (Operations) of the NDC, Mustapha Gbande, who on Tuesday, October 14, urged party members to remain calm as leadership works to resolve internal concerns, particularly around job creation and party-government relations.
Mustapha Gbande acknowledged growing discontent among sections of the NDC base and assured supporters that the party’s leadership remains committed to addressing their grievances.
“We appreciate all concerns in whatever slot deposit pulsa form they come,” he said in a statement, stressing that the leadership is focused on serving the interests of its grassroots.
The 24-hour economy was one of the flagship campaign promises of John Dramani Mahama during the 2024 elections. The policy aims to stimulate economic activity around the clock, create jobs, and boost productivity by encouraging businesses and state institutions to operate beyond regular working hours.
Akbar Khomeini’s remarks highlight the growing pressure on the government to translate its economic pledges into tangible job opportunities, particularly for its loyal base.
