Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, will on Wednesday, July 21, appear before Parliament to account for the expenditure on President Akufo-Addo's recent trip to France.
This follows a threat by the Minority in Parliament to move a vote of censure to remove the Finance Minister from office, if he fails to disclose the cost of the President’s recent foreign trips.
The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has alleged that the foreign trip cost the taxpayer £15,000 per hour.
Mr Ofori-Atta, who was summoned to respond to the question on June 7, pleaded for an extension to enable him prepare to brief the House on the exact amount spent on the President’s foreign trip.
But Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the delay tactics being adopted smacks of efforts to conceal the truth.
Speaking on the floor of House on Friday, Mr Ablakwa stated that he is hoping for an honest accountability from the Finance Minister when he appears before the House.
“I hope that the Finance Minister will be candid, transparent and unimpeachably sincere with the House after the rigmarole,” Mr Ablakwa stated.
