Former Ghana international Augustine Ahinful believes the Ghana Football Association's failure to 'hire the best coaches' for the Black Stars job contributed to the team not qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The team failed to book a slot in Morocco after picking up just three points in six games during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in a group which consisted of Angola, Sudan and Niger.
The technical team, led by Otto Addo, has come under serious scrutiny after failing to the Black Stars' latest disappointment with many calling for the former Borussia Dortmund boss and his assistants to be fired.
In an interview with Joy Sports on Prime Take, Ahinful revealed the Ghana Football Association failed to ensure the right appointment was made.
"If they [GFA] had [hired the best of coaches], we wouldn't be here. [I’m not saying] the people they hired are the worst. But if they did hire [the best coaches] and put proper structures in place we might probably would have qualified [for the Afcon]," he said.
Ahinful also offered some advice to Otto Addo, urging him to be offensive-minded during home games.
"Otto Addo is always conscious in his approach to the game. I always see him play two defensive midfielders being it playing away games or home games. So I would advise playing away, because you are not too sure you can play two defensive midfielders, but when you are at home, you must be offensive" he added.
