The Chief Executive of the Minerals Commission, Isaac Andrew Tandoh, has proposed the setting up of the largest convergent centre in Africa for dialogue in the minerals sector.
Ghana is the largest gold producer in Africa and sixth in the world space which makes it imperative to lead discussions on the commodity.
Mr. Tandoh told the Ghana News Agency at the just-ended Local Content Summit 2026 that Ghana stood the chance to develop rapidly from the mineral resources to boost economic growth, push infrastructure development and uplift the standard of living of Ghana.
He stressed the need to refocus approach in the exploitation and management of the resource by all actors and players in the industry.
Mr. Tandoh said, the commission had begun scanning around for a suitable ground capable of hosting the tens of thousands of industry players who would travel far and near to participate in the anticipated annual summit.
Turning attention to the need for full local content actualization , he noted the need for the Ghanaian to stop fronting, but rather take the bull by the horn …” this is a call to move from participation in the supply of mining inputs to building full industrial capabilities which will provide sustainable value retention for inclusive national development”.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission added that local factories could create thousands of jobs when supported with conducive policies, accessible financing, requisite technical competencies, and partnerships.
He added, “True local content and indigenisation means local companies and Ghanaian people are not only supplying goods and services but progressively owning critical segments of the industry."
