The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has announced government plans to support the private sector in setting up three large-scale garment factories to accelerate industrial growth and expand employment opportunities.

She made the disclosure at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Wednesday, January 21, noting that the proposed factories are projected to create up to 27,000 jobs over time, particularly for young people and first-time job seekers.

According to the Minister, the garment industry remains one of the most labour-intensive sectors and offers a practical pathway to large-scale employment because it requires relatively short training periods before workers can be absorbed into production.

“A garment factory employs a lot of people, and the beauty of it is that you don’t have to train for three or five months before you can start working,” she said.

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare stressed that government’s role will be to provide the enabling environment and targeted support needed for private investors to drive industrial expansion, describing the initiative as a key pillar of the administration’s job creation agenda.

“I can say for a fact that 2026 even looks better, because government is going to support the private sector to establish three big garment factories, with a long-term plan to employ about 27,000 people,” she added.
