Ghana’s leading entertainment and lifestyle radio station, Hitz 103.9 FM, has announced a new weekend programming schedule, promising an energetic and engaging experience for its youthful and music-loving audience.
This follows the earlier unveiling of its revamped weekday line-up, and forms part of the station’s broader rebranding efforts to remain at the forefront of urban radio in Ghana.
The new weekend programming caters to varied tastes from early risers and fitness buffs to Gen Z party-goers, gospel lovers and nostalgic old-school fans.
According to Programmes Manager DJ Black, this move is to make the programmes on Hitz FM on the weekend more entertaining and suitable for its target audience.
Saturdays: music, talk, and entertainment fused
Saturday mornings kick off with Shutdown Saturdays, hosted by DJ Wobeti from 6:00 am to 10:00 am. Designed for the youth, the show offers a mix of energetic tracks with catchy jingles to accompany house chores, workouts or post-party recovery.
From 9:00 am to 11:00 am, DJ Slim takes over with Showbiz Review Xtra, a topical entertainment discussion platform that unpacks the hottest stories of the week. The show features popular and sometimes controversial panelists who spark engaging conversations that appeal to young listeners and industry insiders alike.
The Mixtape Show, airing from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm with DJ Ikon, blends current hits with retro selections for Gen Z listeners who appreciate mixtape DJ culture. It is immediately followed by OG Mix, hosted by DJ Black from 2:00 pm to 3:00pm which offers a nostalgic throwback to the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, a true treat for old-school music lovers. Then comes Campus Konnect which offers a platform for tertiary school students to have discussions on varied topics and tends on the various campuses. It airs from 3:00pm to 4:00pm.
GhaNja Agenda, hosted by Etim Essang, runs from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and serves as a cultural bridge between Ghana and Nigeria. With a target on music lovers in both countries, the show celebrates their shared entertainment roots and appeals especially to the large Nigerian community in Ghana.
Rounding out the day is Hitz Party Mix from 6:00 pm to 10:00pm hosted by DJ Bridash. This show continues the Ghana-Nigeria musical collaboration theme, curating the best tunes from both countries for a thrilling Saturday night experience.
There is also a slot that connects DJs from the diaspora to Ghana. DJ Ronny Ron will also be playing on Saturday evenings.
Sundays: Faith, reggae, highlife and fresh vibes
Sunday programming begins on a spiritual note with Hitz Praiz Zone, hosted by Ni Noi from 5:00 am to 9:00 am. Aimed at young Christians, it mixes worship music, testimonies and uplifting messages to inspire listeners as they prepare for church or reflection.
At 8:00 am, Sun Up Melodies with Mr Haglah provides two hours of lovers rock reggae: soothing and inspirational music for the young and young-at-heart who prefer a mellow start to their Sunday. DJ Ashmen takes over with highlife music till 2pm.
For those who prefer more upbeat vibes, Dancehall Massacre with DJ Gunshot airs from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, offering the latest dancehall hits to a Gen Z audience that thrives on energy and rhythm.
Later in the evening, DJ JaySmoke hosts The Nu Nation from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, targeting urban Christian youth who love gospel with a modern twist. The show features contemporary gospel music and inspirational news stories.
To close out the weekend, Fresh Kutz with DJ Fantastic runs from 9:00 pm to midnight, spotlighting the freshest tracks released during the year across multiple genres. It is tailored for young adults who crave brand new sounds and emerging talent.
The weekend line-up complements the station’s new weekday structure, which has already seen the introduction of new segments, fresh voices and expanded music blocks. With the addition of popular personalities and curated content, Hitz FM is positioning itself as the ultimate destination for music, entertainment and lifestyle radio in Ghana.
