Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has stated that he has not yet begun his opposition to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, explaining that he is allowing them time to settle into office.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, 29th January, he clarified that he is adopting a measured approach to his role as the leader of the opposition.
Reflecting on the challenges of governance, Afenyo-Markin acknowledged that being in power comes with significant difficulties.
“At a point, the NDC put up a posture. It’s difficult to be in government,” he remarked, suggesting that he understands the pressures the new administration faces as they assume office.
He further emphasised that his current stance is not one of opposition but rather of patience, as he observes how the NDC will begin implementing their policies.
“Now, I’m giving them a breather. I haven’t started any opposition yet. No, no. I’m not opposed to them oh,” he said, implying that his criticisms will come in due time.
According to Afenyo-Markin, his decision to hold back on immediate opposition is a strategic move, giving the government room to operate before scrutinising their actions.
“I have given them a great moment to start their government,” he stated, indicating that his leadership of the Minority will become more assertive once the government is fully operational.
