Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has affirmed his unwavering loyalty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating that his rise to the presidency was made possible by the party’s support.
He emphasised that he cannot support any individual or political group opposing the NPP.
The former President’s remarks come in response to criticisms regarding his endorsement of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer for the upcoming elections.
Some critics, including those questioning how long Kufuor has known Bawumia, have expressed disapproval of his public backing of the party’s candidate.
Speaking at a mini rally in Abuakwa South on Wednesday, 27th November, Kufuor addressed these criticisms directly.
He stated that his endorsement of Dr Bawumia is rooted in his loyalty to the NPP and his belief in the flagbearer’s capacity to lead the nation effectively.
Mr Kufuor further reiterated his commitment to the NPP’s success in the December 2024 elections, urging party members and supporters to remain united.
He described the NPP as a family and called on all stakeholders to work together to secure victory for the party.
“I am facing criticism for voicing my opinions on national matters due to my position as a statesman. Experience and wisdom are often associated with age."
“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is my political affiliation, and it was through this party that I attained the presidency. Additionally, my child, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been elected through the party.
