The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in Accra has engaged Ghanaian authorities following the tragic death of a Liberian national, Austin Tengbeh, in the Lashibi–Sakumono area of Accra.
Mr. Tengbeh, 26, reportedly died after an incident on February 27, 2026.
The Embassy said it was officially informed of the development the following day and promptly initiated contact with the Crime Unit of the Sakumono District Police and other relevant authorities to obtain verified information and ensure due process is followed.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the case is currently under active investigation, with some suspects already arrested while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals believed to be involved.
Preliminary information indicates that the deceased, who resided in the Spintex area, had visited a fellow Liberian at a residential property in Lashibi when an altercation broke out, leading to the fatal incident.
Police personnel reportedly responded swiftly and transported him to the Sakumono Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Liberian Embassy said it has since been in contact with individuals connected to the incident, members of the Liberian community in Ghana, and relevant Ghanaian authorities. It is also working to formally reach the deceased’s next of kin to provide consular support.
The Embassy assured that it will continue to monitor developments closely and remain engaged with Ghanaian authorities to ensure the matter is handled in accordance with Ghana’s laws.
It also extended condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, urging members of the Liberian community in Ghana to remain calm and allow investigations to proceed.
The Government of Liberia reaffirmed its confidence in Ghana’s legal process and emphasised the longstanding cordial relations between the two countries.
