Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has reiterated the Mahama administration’s unwavering commitment to youth development and empowerment.

In a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, 2nd July, he highlighted a range of initiatives aimed at nurturing the potential of Ghanaian youth, while commending the discipline and loyalty of the National Cadet Corps on its 71st anniversary.

Dr Boamah, who stood in for President John Dramani Mahama as the Reviewing Officer during a grand parade of 20,000 cadet members from across all 16 regions, praised the Corps for exemplifying patriotism and service.

“We’re proud of our Cadet Corps and the values they uphold. The government is committed to providing opportunities for youth development and empowerment,” he wrote.

The Defence Minister outlined several key youth-focused interventions currently being championed by the Mahama-led government.

These include the One Million Coders Programme, Edwumawura, Free first-year tertiary education scholarships, Free tertiary education for people with disabilities, and the distribution of free sanitary pads to girls.

He also mentioned the planned recruitment and enlistment of 12,000 individuals into the Ghana Armed Forces.

Dr Boamah extended special recognition to individuals who have made significant contributions to cadet development, awarding them round trips to the United Kingdom.

Notably, Cadet Senior Under Officer Adriel Samuel Papa Nii Tettey received a special commendation. “Let’s continue to nurture our youth’s potential,” he concluded, urging collective national support for youth empowerment.
