The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially declared its backing for Morocco's joint bid with Portugal and Spain to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The continent's football governing body in a press release on Thursday quoted President Patrice Motsepe saying the North African country's bid is "now the bid of the African Continent".
The statement added that CAF's Executive Committee at the 73rd congress in Rwanda unanimously agreed to support Morocco's bid to host the World Cup.
“The unanimous decision that was taken by the CAF Executive Committee to support Morocco’s bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2030 means that the bid of Morocco is now the bid of the African Continent," Motsepe said.
"We are now focusing on ensuring that Africa once more hosts the FIFA World Cup and are committed to working together with all Football National Associations and Confederations to make this happen.”
Morocco made history at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as the first African nation to reach the semifinal of the Mundial, and went on to finish fourth.
