Traditional authorities in Nyanyano, a community in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, have appealed to state security agencies to take firm steps to restore calm following renewed tensions linked to a protracted chieftaincy dispute.
The appeal comes after violence erupted on Sunday, February 1, when a group of more than 100 people reportedly stormed the community palace, vandalising parts of the property.
Police intervention prevented the situation from escalating further, and no injuries were recorded.
Security sources say 10 suspects have since been arrested in connection with the disturbance and are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
Speaking to Citi FM on Monday, the Ankobeahene of Nyanyano, Nana Ayi Quaye, called on the police to conduct a comprehensive probe and ensure that both the masterminds and those who carried out the attack are prosecuted.
“We were there and heard that people wanted to attack us for reasons we do not know,” he said.
He suggested that the violence may be linked to earlier failed legal attempts to take control of the palace.
“They previously tried to take over the palace through the courts, but the court dismissed their claim. Now, they have resorted to using force to achieve their aims,” Nana Ayi Quaye added, stressing the need for decisive action to prevent further unrest in the community.
