The incumbent Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been declared the winner of the parliamentary election.
With this declaration, Adjei-Mensah Korsah retains his seat, securing victory with 46,663 votes.
Christopher Beyere Baasongti of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) came in second with 43,429 votes, while Donkor Moses received 1,140 votes, and Bayor Idris garnered 76 votes.
The announcement from the re-collation brings an end to the contentious election process in Techiman South, a constituency that has seen significant political activity and scrutiny in recent years.
The Electoral Commission’s Returning Officer for Techiman South, Martin Adzawotor, in his declaration stated, "By the power vested in me as the Returning Officer for Techiman South, I hereby declare Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah as the MP-elect for Techiman South."
Adzawotor also addressed issues with two polling stations, namely the D/A Primary School and Islamic JHS, whose results were excluded from the valid vote counts.
These two polling stations, which accounted for 1,138 votes, were annulled due to reported voting irregularities, he added.
The Returning Officer noted that even if the excluded votes were added to the tally of the first runner-up, Christopher Beyere Baasongti, they would not affect the overall outcome of the election.
The Techiman South election recorded 90,303 valid votes, with 844 rejected ballots, bringing the total votes cast to 91,152.
