The Ministry of Sports and Recreation, headed by Kofi Adams, has inaugurated the Local Organising Committee for the 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship which comes off in May.
The seven-member committee is chaired by Mrs. Maame Afua Houageto of the Ghana Tourism Authority, with Dr. Kofi Addo-Agyekum of Kofikrom Pharmacy Ltd. serving as Vice Chairman.
Other members include Mr. ACI Gordon Saah of the Ghana Immigration Service (Security), Mr. Edwin Amankwah of Global Media Alliance (Media/Marketing), Mr. Gideon Hammond, Deputy Director-General in charge of Finance and Administration at the National Sports Authority, Miss Jessica Kwarteng, a Protocol Officer at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and Mr. Andre Ackah of the Advertisers Association of Ghana.
“Many Federations have emerged without proper structures, but that cannot be said of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation,” the Minister said.

“When a sport shows structure, discipline, and results, it deserves investment. Therefore, the Federation will receive strong support from the Sports Development Fund,” he added.
The President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, also made assurance of a strong medal haul for Ghana at the championship.
“When Ghana hosted the 2023 African Games, the nation won 59 medals, with armwrestling accounting for 41 of them.
“We believe hosting this championship will help identify and prepare athletes for the next African Games, who will go on to win medals for Ghana,” he said.
At the event, the mascot for the 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship was also officially unveiled.
