Asante Kotoko are set to face Legon Cities in an outstanding Ghana Premier League match on Wednesday night, aiming to return to winning ways after their recent momentum was interrupted by a weekend draw against Basake Holy Stars.
The Porcupine Warriors had been on a three-game winning streak and were leading at first half, seemingly set to make it four in a row. However, a late equalizer from Holy Stars resulted in a 1-1 draw, keeping Kotoko in second place on the league table.
Now three points behind league leaders Bibiani GoldStars, Kotoko are eager to claim victory at the University of Ghana Stadium to go join-top of the table.
Head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has cautioned his players to stay focused and avoid underestimating the struggling Legon Cities side.
“‘He who is down fears no fall.’ Given where they [Legon Cities] are now, they're not in a good position and will want to use this opportunity to revamp their hopes in the league,” he said.
“I'm sure they'll come in with determination, effort, and a strong desire to play well and get maximum points. So, we have to be very careful, stay focused, avoid complacency, and ensure that tactically we take advantage of their weaknesses.”
Legon Cities, meanwhile, are enduring a difficult season. The team is yet to register a win in seven games this season.
In head-to-head, Kotoko holds the upper hand, with three wins from six encounters. Legon Cities have managed only one win, with two matches ending in draws.
Their last meeting on May 5, 2024, saw Kotoko claim a 2-0 victory.
