The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has refuted claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that two million jobs were created under their administration.
Mr Mahama insisted there is no evidence to support this assertion, labelling it as a political ploy by the NPP to win votes ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The NPP’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, recently touted the government’s achievements, stating that 2.1 million jobs were created between 2017 and 2022, despite global economic challenges.
Dr Bawumia stated that these figures demonstrated the government's commitment to addressing unemployment.
However, during a campaign stop in Asutifi North in the Ahafo Region, Mahama dismissed these claims, arguing that the figures were inflated for political gain and did not reflect the reality of Ghana's current employment situation.
He urged the public to scrutinize the NPP's job creation narrative critically.
“We cannot be deceived by the unemployment rate, under the NDC administration it was 8.4% but it has since risen.
"Despite the president and vice president claiming to have created over two million jobs, I ask where are these jobs and how many have reached the residents."
“This seems like mere rhetoric aimed at winning votes. That is why we are advocating for a 24-hour economy policy to create new job opportunities,” he stated.
