President Akufo-Addo was on Saturday June 27 acclaimed the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the December 7, 2020 elections.
This was done at a special National Council meeting by the party held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
He emerged the sole candidate for the party, after the close of nominations for a flagbearer for the party in February this year
Addressing members of the National Council of the Party after his endorsement, the President also named vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as his running mate.
“I thank the Almighty God for the honour done me today by you members of the National Council of the NPP for acclaiming me as the presidential candidate of the party for the 7th December 2020 general elections. I shall with God’s help, do everything within my power to justify your decision and lead this smooth deserving party to another victory in December. I accept this in all humility,” he said.
This will be the fourth time Akufo-Addo will lead the NPP to a presidential election.
He was given the nod in 2008 when the then-president John Agyekum Kufuor was stepping down after serving his second and last term.
If he wins the December 2020 elections, it would be Akufo-Addo’s final time to contest as president as the constitution bars him from serving more than two terms.
