After Hearts of Oak won against Elmina Sharks over the weekend, coach Samuel Boadu has expressed satisfaction with the quality in performance of his team as the Phobians moved within two points of league leaders, Asante Kotoko.
The coach had earlier expressed disappointment with the performance of his side with Bechem United but after Sunday’s win, he pointed to an improvement.
“There’s a little bit of improvement because at Bechem we could see lots of mistakes over there, but when we came back to the training ground I think I have done a lot of things that have improved the standards of the team,” Boadu noted.
The Phobians started this season in stuttering form, at a point seated a place above the relegation zone. Three different managers in a single season does well to summarize their challenges.
And yet, with 43 points, the club in search of their 20th league title have managed to haul themselves back to the top four - awaiting to pounce on any slip-ups.
Boadu insists there's no pressure. “We know what we are doing and know it is a gradual process, we play match after match. We have won this match, [so] we are going home to prepare for the away game with Eleven Wonders so we go and win over there.”
The active support of local club fans this season has, to an extent, been hindered by restrictions from the attempt to reduce the risk of Covid-19.
Boadu realizes for Hearts to jump these hurdles they may encounter, they will need their fans to stand with one voice.
“They [fans] should keep supporting the team and they should all come together because though we are having challenges here and there, we believe Hearts of Oak can do it. We can do better," Boadu said
Hearts of Oak will travel to Techiman to face Eleven Wonders in match week 26 of the Ghana Premier League.
