The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service is appealing to commercial transport owners to encourage their drivers abide by road traffic regulations to avoid needless accidents.
Head of Education, Research and Training, Supt. Alexander Obeng said this when he led a team from the MTTD and the National Road Safety Authority to enforce usage of the footbridge at the Pokuase interchange which has been opened to traffic.
He explained, this was necessary because some members of the public were still crossing the highway - a situation which can end their lives.
"We will be here to help all motorists to adjust. Traffic police officers are equipped with flashlights to assist all motorists. Be guided," he said.
A pedestrian told JoyNews “they should finish the footsteps before they would allow us to walk so that there wouldn’t be any trouble or any accident."
"What happens at night, how are they going to stop people from crossing the street?” he quizzed.
In an interaction with the boss of MTTD on how these education will be sustained, he said "We will be here to help all motorists to adjust. Traffic police officers are equip with flash light to assist all motorist. Be guided."
