A youth leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Abuakwa North Constituency of the Eastern Region, Daniel Obeng Acquah popularly known as Ubuntu Boxxy is demanding clarification from the National Council of the party on article 9 (2 ) of the NPP Constitution as amended in 2017.
Daniel Obeng Acquah is concerned about the blatant disregard and breach of article 9 (2) of the constitution which provides that: 'with exception of the Deputy Regional Secretary, Deputy Regional Organizer, Deputy Regional Women Organizer, Deputy Regional Youth Organizer, Deputy Regional Nasara Coordinator, Regional Financial Secretary, Regional Research/Electoral Officer, and Regional Communication Officer, who shall be appointed, all other Regional Officers shall be elected at a Regional Annual Delegates Conference, which shall be supervised by a person appointed by the National Executive Committee, from within its membership".
He argues that despite the entrenched provision in the constitution, the aforementioned positions have been contested for after the coming into force of the 2017 Constitution.
Mr. Daniel Obeng Acquah added that, a careful assessment and scrutiny of events following the promulgation of the 2017 Constitution indicates that, some Regions not limited to the Western North, Oti and Savanah have and continue to make such positions an elected one instead of held by appointment.
In a letter addressed to the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu and copied to the National Chairman, Freddie Blay, Mr. Acquah requested for a true and proper interpretation and clarification of article 9 (2) of the NPP Constitution.
Again, he wishes to ascertain whether or not there is a new election guidelines or provisions contrary to article 9(2) or the party's constitution.
He indicated that in order to avoid any backlash and inundated legal banter in the upcoming NPP constituency and regional elections, it is imperative for the National Executive to come clear on the continuous breach of article 9(2).
