The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has aligned itself with the viewpoint that the government's lithium mining agreement with Barari DV is not in the best interest of the country.
In a statement issued by Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the party, on Wednesday, the NDC emphasised that, after closely monitoring discussions on the agreement and scrutinizing its terms, "the NDC has concluded that the Ghana-Barari Lithium agreement is not in the best interest of Ghana."
The party highlighted, among other concerns, that the requirement in the mining lease agreement for the establishment of a chemical plant to process Ghana’s lithium locally was notably weak.
