President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to choose compassion, truth, and integrity in both speech and action, calling on the nation to embrace healing over division in everyday interactions.

Delivering a keynote address at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving held on 1st July in Accra, President Mahama reflected on the theme “Reset, Reflect and Review for National Prosperity”, encouraging citizens to use the occasion not only to offer gratitude to God but to rededicate themselves to values that uphold national unity and progress.

“Let us remember this: true thanksgiving is not spoken only with the lips – it must be lived in our very lives,” he said. “As James says in Chapter 2 verse 17, ‘Faith by itself, if not accompanied by action, is dead.’”

He stressed that the power of words must be used to build and heal, especially in a climate where rhetoric often breeds tension and division.

“On this sacred day, therefore, as we pray and give thanks, it is also a time to renew our commitment to living out our faith through truth, love and service to our nation. Let us speak words that heal, not words that harm,” he urged.

He further called for honesty, humility, and integrity in both public and private life, noting that national transformation can only be achieved when all—especially leaders—are held to high ethical standards.

“Let us be honest in our dealings, generous in our compassion, and upright in our conduct,” he added.

“We must hold those in authority, including myself, accountable to the highest standard of integrity and humility.”

The event drew religious leaders, government officials, and citizens from across the country, serving as a solemn platform for collective reflection, spiritual renewal, and a reaffirmation of national values.

Presidents Mahama's message echoed a growing call for principled leadership and a united national front rooted in respect, righteousness, and responsible speech.
