Assembly members in the Amansie West District have petitioned the Ashanti Regional Minister over the recent shootings at Mpatuam, leading to the killing of one assembly member and injury of two others.
They are calling for the establishment of an independent body to investigate the matter in demand for justice.
Clad in red bands, the assembly members expressed their displeasure over the recent attacks on their members.
The Presiding Member, Amponsah Antwi, claims members have come under attack in recent times by security operatives protecting Asanko Gold Mines.
They submitted their petition through the Amansie West District Chief Executive, requesting the establishment of an independent committee to investigate the recent incident.
"This is not the first attack we've faced; recently, the Bonteso Assembly member was arrested and has been in police custody for nearly two months which is unfair," Amponsah Antwi said.
He called for the immediate release of the Bonteso Assembly member.
Receiving the petition, the DCE of Amansie West, Prince Manu Morrison, assured the assembly members that their suggestions would be taken into consideration to help restore calm in the district.
